PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks made 8 roster moves and have 34 active players left in camp.

Optioned to Triple-A Reno:

INF/OF Tim Locastro

Reassigned to Minor League camp:

OF Abraham Almonte

RHP Stefan Crichton

RHP Rubby De La Rosa

RHP Ricky Nolasco

RHP Braden Shipley

INF/OF Yasmany Tomás

INF Kelby Tomlinson

Locastro is the only one of these players on the 40-man roster, which is presumably why he was optioned rather than re-assigned. On the non-roster invitees side, we bid farewell to Rubby De La Rosa and Yasmany Tomás, despite both having put up decent numbers in spring training. As we noted just yesterday, Tomas’s OPS was among the best of any hitter this pre-season - but was almost entirely due to an unsustainable BABIP. It’s interesting that the team didn’t want him kept around, despite the departure of expected 1B Jake Lamb from Sunday’s game with a back issue. Hopefully, that’s a good sign for Lamb.

While Rubby got kicked around a lot in his last appearance, he had looked very impressive in his return from a second Tommy John procedure. He hit 99 mph in his first outing, and showcased some impressive stuff. With some slots still apparently to be decided in the D-backs’ bullpen, De La Rosa was seen as a possible contender. But perhaps his rehab is seen as better served under controlled circumstances in the minors, rather than the pressure cooker situation of the major leagues. It has still been an encouraging spring for Rubby, and if he continues to throw as he did, and remains healthy, we’ll likely see him at some point in the season.
