If you’re anything like me, you’ll be stoked for the new and final season of Game of Thrones, which will be arriving on HBO, April 14. The D-backs have already been involved in a couple of successful GoT nights at Chase Field - I’m sitting with the Taijuan Walker figure from the first of these on a shelf just a foot above my head. Never ones to let a marketing opportunity go by, it was announced today that a slew of Game of Thrones bobbleheads, for every MLB team, are coming out. The bobbleheads, manufactured by FOCO and officially licensed by HBO and MLB, are being released in two batches, and can be pre-ordered in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store for delivery in April.
The three Diamondbacks-themed bobbleheads are described as follows in the press release:
- Iron Throne: Every MLB mascot along with several current stars are featured on the iconic Iron Throne. These players and mascots, wielding a bat and proudly displaying their team banner, are more than ready to make sure any opposing team is willing to bend the knee.
- Night King: Each team has the grim Night King poised to make his move. With his frozen bat, icy team logo, and noble team heraldry, the Night King is sure to signal that baseball is coming.
- Ice Dragon: This series’ focus is a bone-chilling Ice Dragon. Battle-scarred with wings outstretched, this piece also prominently displays each team’s icy logo.
The Night King bobbleheads are $45 each and the Ice Dragon and Iron Throne bobbleheads are $60 each. If you want all three... y’know, as a birthday present for your favorite baseball website overlord... the set is $150. Shipping is a flat rate of $8 for all orders. Let me know and I’ll send you my address. :) I must say, I find the one of Baxter on the Iron Throne a bit creepy. This is probably a result of the cognitive dissonance between the adorable hi-jinx of the D-backs’ mascot, and the torrents of bloodshed and other, even less family-friendly activities associated with the throne. Still, that’s half the appeal? The Night King one is probably my favorite: I like the understated “icy” D-backs logo there.
Series 2 is set to be released in April “with additional designs featuring MLB players in conjunction with the GOT theme”. I’m curious to see who and what is going to be featured from the D-backs there. Post your guesses in the comments...
