World Series:
Nationals rally again to stun Astros in game 7 for club’s 1st World Series title.
Why in the World Series would AJ Hinch pull Zack Greinke after just 80 pitches with Greinke looking locked in? Hinch would go to former D-back Will Harris to settle things in the 6th after yanking Greinke - Harris quickly gave up the lead. The Nationals would continue to tack on runs against Osuna and Smith before Washington solidified victory under the Nationals closer, former D-back Daniel Hudson. The Nationals made winning look easy after Greinke was pulled and secured their very 1st World Series since their inception in 1969. Lifelong Astros fans from Glendale, AZ suddenly do not know what to do with themselves.
Nationals Manager Davy Martinez had this to say: “I believe in these guys and they believe in each other,” Martinez said. “We were 19-31. We didn’t quit then. We weren’t going to quit now.”
The Nationals win first ever World Series after rallying past Astros.
“He got the [cortisone] shot,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said of Scherzer before the game. “They told him he couldn’t do anything for 24 hours. He listened. He came back and he said he felt good. He threw flat ground. Said he felt real good. [Tuesday] he got up and threw just to throw in the bullpen. Said he felt great. So testament to him. This guy has been a workhorse. He’s itching to go. He wants to pitch and he’s excited to pitch.’’
Diamondbacks News:
Diamondbacks to name Matt Herges as pitching coach.
Former D-back Matt Herges is the new pitching coach, replacing Mike Butcher who was fired after 4 seasons. Herges was previously the Giants BP coach and also spent some time with the Dodger-Evil minors system in some role. Herges is 49 years old.
Ranking the Diamondbacks top 15 most valuable players FOR THE LONG TERM
An Athletic article you will need to log in to read the details of each player, and why the Athletic feels these 15 are top 15 MVP’s long term. However, I will list the names in order.
1. Ketel Marte. 2. Carson Kelly. 3. Zac Gallen. 4. Luke Weaver. 5. Daulton Varsho. 6. Corbin Martin. 7. Alek Thomas. 8. Kristian Robinson. 9. Corbin Carroll. 10. Geraldo Perdomo. 11. Seth “Get Me A” Beer. 12. Christian Walker. 13. Jon Duplantier. 14. Merril Kelly. 15. Levi Kelly.
A chest-bump kind of year: Arizona and it’s 4 gold-glove finalists.
“We try to do the best we can to help Torey and the staff and the players as much as we can,” Hazen said of the uses of shifts, which has included a four-outfielder alignment against Dodgers’ slugger Cody Bellinger. “Torey is not afraid to be creative and take a risk, which I think is important.”
Around Baseball:
Former baseball star Josh Hamilton arrested for injury to a child.
TMZ reports that Hamilton was quoted in the affidavit as saying, “I hope you go in front of the f-----g judge and tell him what a terrible dad I am so I don’t have to see you anymore and you don’t ever have to come to my house again.”
Girardi pegs Bryan Price as front runner for Phillies pitching coach job.
After Price rejected a job offer from The Diamondbacks, it seems ol’ Bryan (with a “y”), may be getting a call from the Phillies soon with a whole new, shinier offer.
Off-topic Snake Byte:
Man cuts off own finger after snake bite to ‘save my own life’, Docs said it was unnecessary.
