This was going to be a re-match of Game 1, with Max Scherzer facing Gerrit Cole. However, Scherzer has been scratched fro the start due to spasms in his upper right trapezius. That’s an obviously huge blow for the Nationals, who turn to Joe Cole instead. They’ll be hoping he can pull off much the same feat as Jose Urquidy did for the Astros in his first World Series appearance. But it will also depend on the Washington hitters being able to reproduce the success they had against Cole in the unexpected opening victory. Fun fact: only once in the live-ball era has the road team won five consecutive games in the World Series, the Braves and Yankees doing so in the 1996 World Series.
