And, so, the 2019 post-season begins, with the first game deciding who gets the unenviable task of going to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in the NLDS. The Nationals are the clear favorites here, even though the Brewers actually won the series season, 4-2. Having Max Scherzer on the mound would certainly seem to give them an advantage over Brandon Woodruff, not least in playoff experience. This will be Scherzer’s 14th start in the post-season, while Woodruff has... one, a three-inning stint in the 2018 NLDS against the Rockies. But Max hasn’t been all that, with a 4-5 playoff record and a 3.73 ERA. He hasn’t had a W in the post-season since 2013. being 0-4 over his last six starts, between the Tigers and Nationals. Will tonight end that streak?
Finally, with a hat-tip to asteroid, I’ll leave this here, as an indication of how much things have changed in 88 years...
1931: Please do not call asking for World Series scores, The Times asked readers. Answering the overwhelming number of calls would "seriously interfere with the necessary business of thew newspaper." https://t.co/ZKNRrR5Bv6 pic.twitter.com/8lG7crIckk
