The 2019 Diamondbacks’ season ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper. The promise which was April could not be sustained over the full 162-game schedule, eventually melting down in the sludge of a terrible September. But while the book is closed on a season which will be seen as disappointing, the SnakePit won’t be going away. We’ll be here for you through the long dark NBA/NFL/NHL-infected winter, keeping you going while we all gaze out the window and wait for spring training. It promises to be a very interesting off-season for Mike Hazen and the Diamondbacks, and we’ll be present, peering over their shoulder and making “helpful” suggestions, every step of the way...
I want to thank a few people as we switch into non-competitive post-season mode. Firstly, all the people who contributed to the site this year, across all the areas. Recappers Dano + Alex, imstillhungry95, Keegan, Steven, Turambar, plus all the guests over the course of the season. Snake Byters Jay and James; feature writers Sean and Charlie; minor-league coverage from Michael and Wesley; and previewers Curtis, Cumulus and Xipooo. Plus mid-season call-ups Edbigghead and Jack, who stepped in to fill roster gaps when the need arose. We’ve an amazing team of contributors, and I’m lucky to have them.
Externally, there are many people who made the job easier. The D-backs continue to be amazing supportive of this “mediocre fan site”, something we know is not the case for all MLB teams. So thanks to Josh, Patrick and the rest of the crew at Chase Field for helping us out when necessary. The “real” reporters who cover the Diamondbacks on an every day basis also deserve credit: Steve Gilbert, Nick Piecoro and Zach Buchanan all provide top-notch coverage, quotes and reactions, which I get to fold in from the comfort of my desk. The same for the broadcast team: not just Bob, Bert and Greg, but the people behind them, too. You know who you are, and thanks for the mentions!
Our appreciation also goes to SB Nation, for the platform, support and maintenance, second to none. Mrs. SnakePit, for another year of putting up with being a baseball widow and never complaining about it. The asteroids and ish95 Sr for generous ticketage. And last, but not least, you for reading this. Whether or not you ever comment, whether or not you write a Fanpost, the fact that you consider the site worth visiting is, frankly, a source of never-ending amazement to me - even after fourteen years! We’ll be back in... Well, actually a couple of hours with a round table, to be honest. :) I guess we can’t quit you, any more than you can quit us...
Thanks for sharing the 2018 season, with all its highs and lows, with us on the SnakePit. Here’s to 2019. Is it spring training yet?
