The Diamondbacks continued their September slump, as the Rockies completed a three-game sweep in the penultimate series of the year at Chase Field. Arizona did at least get some good pitching, but the offense was shut down by Colorado's Kyle Freeland. Zack Godley loaded the bases in the first, but went five innings. He allowed two runs on six hits and three walks, with five strikeouts.
The bullpen threw four scoreless innings, to keep the game close. Archie Bradley and Jake Diekman each struck out a pair in a perfect frame, Yoan Lopez fanned three around a walk in the eighth, and SilvinoBracho pitched the ninth.
The hitters couldn't get a hit when they needed it, going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Chris Owings, Eduardo Escobar and David Peralta each had two hits, Owings after coming into the game as a replacement for Steven Souza. Souza was lifted after suffering what the team described as a lower back spasm. I imagine fans can relate to that.
