It was the Padres’ turn to score first, ambushing Zack Greinke with a two-run homer with two outs in the opening inning. However, the D-backs rallied to tie it by the third, on an RBI single from Jeff Mathis and David Peralta’s 23rd home-run of the season (above). Both starters then settled in, with no further scoring until the bottom of the sixth.
San Diego then edged in front, in Greinke's final inning of work. He went six, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Arizona tied it back up in the eighth, courtesy of Daniel Descalso's 11th home-run. With one out in the ninth, A.J. Pollock went deep, for his 16th, giving the D-backs their first lead. Brad Boxberger closed things out to give Arizona the series and keep them on top in the West.
Pat McCarthy will be along with the full recap in a bit.
