Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 8/16/2018

The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined to go 1-6, with a lot of heart-breaking losses in that group. Here are some of the stars from last night’s games.

Hot Bats:

Reno C Alberto Rosario 3 for 4, 3 RBI, R
Jackson C Dominic Miroglio 3 for 5, 2B, 3 RBI, R

Quality Starts:

Reno RHP Neftali Feliz 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R (2 ER), 5 BB, 4 K, GS 56

Reno Aces 7, Salt Lake Bees 5: Neftali Feliz scattered 4 hits and 5 walks over 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs overall. The Aces scored 4 times to give him a 4-2 lead, but Albert Suarez ran into trouble in the 8th as he was unable to record any outs and yielded 4 baserunners. Joey Krehbiel came in with 2 on and no outs in a tie game and did his best to keep the go-ahead run from scoring, but couldn’t hold it there. Fortunately Reno answered with a 3-run inning in the bottom half of the inning to steal victory from the jaws of defeat. Kevin Cron homered in the 8th.

Jackson Generals 6, Montgomery Biscuits 7 (F/10): Justin Donatella delivered a serviceable start with 3 runs in 6 innings and left with a 6-3 lead. Dominic Miroglio gave Jackson the lead with a 2-run double and Jose Vinicio clubbed a 2-run homer to cap the inning. Unfortunately, the bullpen was not very good. Kirby Bellow surrendered two runs in the 7th and Bud Jeter gave up the tying run in the 8th. After a scoreless 9th, Yoan Lopez surrendered the go-ahead run in the 10th.

Visalia Rawhide 5, Modesto Nuts 12: A big 4-run inning that was keyed by a 3-run homer by Marcus Wilson gave Visalia an early 4-2 lead. However, Cole Stapler was shaky as he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings on 9 hits, no walks, and 2 strikeouts. The Visalia bullpen was poor as they allowed 7 runs in 4 innings and that effectively ruined any comeback bid.

Kane County Cougars 1, Quad Cities River Bandits 2: In a duel of solo homers, the Bandits out-homered the Cougars 2-1. Mack Lemieux only lasted 2 innings before getting pulled for Rafael Pujols, who pitched 3 scoreless innings. Ryan Grotjohn homered in the 4th to tie the game at 1, but Kane County hitters did nothing afterwards. Abraham Almonte pitched alright, but gave up the game-winning homer in his 3rd and final inning.

Hillsboro Hops 1, Eugene Emeralds 2: Luis Frias took the tough luck loss after allowing just 2 runs in 5 innings. He gave up 5 hits and no walks while striking out 3. Unfortunately, the Hillsboro offense was shut down by superior pitching. In the 6th, a leadoff double by William Gorman followed by a 1-out single by Francis Martinez put the Hops in business. Jake McCarthy was able to score the runner at 3rd on a sac fly, but then a caught stealing ended the inning and the Hops didn’t get another runner on after that.

AZL Dbacks 4, AZL Cubs #1 8: Levi Kelly pitched 2 scoreless with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Unfortunately, the next pitcher wasn’t as lucky as Alex Valdez surrendered 8 runs in his 2 innings. Kevin Watson Jr. homered and drove in 3 runs for the Dbacks, but they were never really able to cut into the Cubs’ lead.
