Paul Goldschmidt’s 27th home-run of the season gave the Diamondbacks a first inning lead in Arlington. A ground-out off the bat of Daniel Descalso the next inning doubled the lead, and Arizona then scored twice in the fourth. A Descalso double made it 3-0, and he was later able to score on a wild pitch. However, the Rangers chipped away, getting a run back immediately. After Alex Avila delivered tacos with his sixth home-run of the year in the sixth inning, Texas responded with two, making the score 5-3.
Patrick Corbin was able to hold them there, and went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked none and struck out seven. Jon Jay provided an insurance run in the eighth, extending the lead to 6-3. Andrew Chafin and Yoshihisa Hirano combined for a scoreless eighth, and Brad Boxberger picked up his 27th save, despite allowing a run in the ninth. The win guarantees the D-backs will remain in first another day, regardless of results elsewhere.
ish95 will be along with the full recap later.
