Minor League Recap 7/9/2018: Win Some, Lose Some (Extra Inning Games)

D’backs Affiliates went 4-7 as the DSL teams had the day off; Missoula and the AZL D’backs go to ten innings with very different results

Alex Young got the start, went size innings, and gave up one run on seven hits, a hit by pitch, and a walk, while striking out two. Joey Krehbiel followed with a perfect inning in the seventh, getting the three outs on two grounds and a flyout. Silvino Bracho pitched the eighth, and gave up an unearned run of two hits and a passed ball. Jimmie Sherfy pitched a perfect ninth and struck put on. Cesar Puello was 3-3 with a two run homerun. Anthony Recker was a home run short of the cycle, going 3-4 with a double and a triple. Christian Walker was 2-4 with a stolen base.

Jackson Generals 1 Biloxi Shuckers 5

Justin Donatella pitched five innings, and gave up one run on a hit and a walk, while striking out three. The lone run scored via solo home run in the second. Kevin Ginkel continued to dominate Southern League batters, tossing two perfect innings and striking out three. Daniel Gibson unfortunately gave up four runs on four hits, a walk, and a wild pitch, and was only able get two outs. Brad Goldberg got the final out via a pickoff of the runner trying to steal second. The Generals were held to just six hits and four walks, and none of the hits went for extra bases. Marty Herum reached base twice with a hit and a walk. Ben DeLuzio was 2-4, but was caught caught stealing.

Visalia Rawhide 6 Lake Elsinore Storm 1

Matt Peacock went six innings, and gave up one run off four hits, while walking none and sticking out nine batters (!) Junior Garcia went two innings, and gave up just a hit while walking non and striking out a pair of batters. Tommy Eveld closed out the ninth inning, and also gave up a hit and walked none and struck out a batter.

Drew Ellis went 2-4 with two doubles, Renae Martinez went 3-4 with a three run home run. Dominic Miroglio singled and walked.

Cedar Rapids Kernels 4 Kane County Cougars 5

Jeff Bain went five innings, and gave up three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out three batters. Abraham Almonte pitched three innings and gave up one run on four hits, while walking none and striking out two. Cole Bartlett pitched a scoreless ninth inning, despite giving up a hit and a walk

Ernie De La Trinindad was 3-4 with a walk. Gabriel Maciel was 2-5 with a run scored. Yoel Yanqui was 2-5 with double and a run scored. Luis Silverio was 2-3 with a double.

Hillsboro Hops 3 Eugene Emeralds 4

Adrien Del Moral pitched five scoreless innings, and gave up two hits and walk, and struck out three. Brian Christian went 2.2 scoreless innings, and gave up just a hit, no walks, and struck out a batter. Josh Green faced two batters, and walked one and got the other on a ground out. Wesley Rodriguez had a rough outing and allowed 3 hits and a walk, Roriguez was tagged for four earned runs, but one of those runs scored thanks to Kai-Wei Lin uncorking two wild pitches.

Ryan Dobson was 3-4 with a double, walk, and two stolen bases. Joey Rose was 2-4 with a double. Francis Martinez was 1-3 with a double and a hit by pitch

Great Falls Voyagers 6 Missoula Osprey 7

The Osprey scored a run in the ninth to tie the game at 6-6, and would score a run in the tenth win in a walk off fashion.

Marcos Tineo gave up three runs (only one earned thanks to error by Buddy Kennedy) off of five hits, a hit by pitch and a walk, and struck out seven. Jacob Stevens pitched an inning and gave two runs (with an unearned run thanks to a fielding error by Zach Shannon) off of two walks and a hit by pitch. Melvin Ovalles tossed an inning as well, and gave up one run on two hits and a wild pitch. Junior Garcia pitched two perfect innings, and struck out three.

Cesar Garcia was 1-3 with a double and a walk. David Sanchez was 2-4 with a double and a triple. Zachary Almond was 2-5 with a double Brandon Leyton was 3-5.

AZL Indians 4 AZL D’Backs 3

The AZL D'Backs tied the score up at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, and would fail to score any more runs, sending the game into extra innings. The AZL Indians would score a run in the 10th, but the AZL D'backs were unable to score again, costing them the game.

Joshua Javier got the start, and pitched 3.2 innings, and gave up three runs(one unearned thanks to a missed catch error by Jordan McArdle) on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Ryan Ricci faced two batters, and gave up a hit, but got the final out of the fourth inning. Antonio Cardenas pitched four scoreless innings, and gave up three hits and two walks, and struck out four. Raibel Custodio struck out there over two innings, gave up a hit and a walk, and allowed the winning run to score. The AZL D'Backs were held to just six hits and two walks, with no player having more than a hit, and the only extra base hit was triple Kevin Watson Jr. David Garza was the only batter to reach base more than once, with a hit and a walk.
