Arizona Diamondbacks 9, Colorado Rockies 4

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but: Paul Goldschmidt’s back...

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

A home-run barrage, spear-headed by Paul Goldschmidt’s two long balls, helped the D-backs offense take the opening game of the year at Coors Field. After an RBI double by Daniel Descalso in the first, there were three home-runs for Arizona in the third, by Goldschmidt, Jake Lamb and David Peralta. Zack Greinke had an RBI single in the sixth, and there were further runs batted in by Jeff Mathis and Chris Owings, before Goldy’s second HR of the night in the ninth.

Zack Greinke got the W, and outside of the fifth inning, pitched well. That frame included three runs on two home-runs by the Rockies, but he ended up going 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and a pair of walks, with five strikeouts. Andrew Chafin got four big outs, then Yoshihisa Hirano and T.J. McFarland completed the night’s work. Goldschmidt and Peralta had three hits apiece, with Peralta adding a pair.
