Reno Aces 4, Nashville Sounds 3: Alex Young put up a strong start for the Aces (26-33) with 6 innings of 1 run ball with 6 Ks. The offense had a couple timely hits and took advantage of some wildness to plate 4 runs against former Ace Eric Jokisch. The Aces scored 3 times in the top of the 5th to take a 4-1 lead. Albert Suarez allowed a 2-run homer to make things more interesting than necessary, but Jimmie Sherfy cleaned up the 9th to pick up his 10th save of the year.
Jackson Generals 2, Tennessee Smokies 10: Bad pitching and situational offense put the Generals (32-26) behind big early and no realistic chance of winning. Bo Takahashi got shelled in 3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and Yuhei Nakaushiro allowed 4 runs in his 3 innings. The Generals offense had chances, but went 2 for 11 with RISP and left 16 on base in the game.
Visalia Rawhide 6, Modesto Nuts 3: The Cougars used a 4-run 7th inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 lead. Marcus Wilson had the big hit with a 2-run double. Bottom of the order was setting the table with Dominic Miroglio reaching base in all 4 trips to the plate while Mark Karaviotis had 3 RBI. Tyler Keele allowed 3 runs in 5 innings, but the bullpen was excellent behind him. Randall Delgado is in rehab games again, striking out 2 in a scoreless 6th. Junior Garcia pitched a scoreless 7th, Jordan Watson a scoreless 8th with 2 Ks, and Tommy Eveld nailed the save with 2 Ks in the 9th.
Kane County Cougars 4, Peoria Chiefs 7: Sloppy defense hurt Jhoan Duran, who allowed 4 runs (1 earned) in 5 innings on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 6 Ks. 1B Yoel Yanqui had 2 fielding errors as well as a bases clearing triple and a run scored in the game. The bullpen was short of excellent with Abraham Almonte allowed 2 runs in 1 inning and Juan Torres allowed 1 run in 2 innings.
DSL Dbacks1 4, DSL Blue Jays 6: Bryan Valdez allowed 2 runs (1 earned) in 7 innings, striking out 8, but got no run support. Despite only picking up 5 singles, the top DSL Dbacks team managed to plate 4 runs thanks to excellent baserunning and sloppy defense. Trailing 3-1 going into the top of the 8th, the Dbacks scored in the 8th and 9th to send it into extras and plated the free runner. However, the lead would not hold in the 10th as the Blue Jays walked it off with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 10th.
DSL Dbacks2 5, DSL Rangers2 3: The Dbacks scored 4 times in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 5-0 lead and cruised from there. There wasn’t much offense in terms of hitting, but excellent baserunning seemed to make the difference on a few plays. Rigoberto Borbolla allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 2 Ks in 4 2⁄3 innings, falling 1 out short of qualifying for the win. Victor Martinez backed him up with 3 1⁄3 scoreless with 9 strikeouts.
