Three of the Diamondbacks’ six minor league affiliates have their All-Star breaks this week, which makes things a lot easier for me to recap. The Jackson Generals, Visalia Rawhide, and Kane County Cougars had off days as part of that break. In addition a scheduled doubleheader between the Missoula Osprey and their opponents was postponed due to rain.
Snake Stars:
3 Stars: AZL Dbacks 3B Joe Gillette 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, 4 RBI, R
2 Stars: AZL Dbacks LF Alek Thomas 3 for 4, BB
1 Star: AZL Dbacks CF Kristian Robinson 3 for 5, RBI, 2 R
Reno Aces 4, Omaha Storm Chasers 6: Jake Buchanan allowed 3 runs in the first, but settled in to pitch 5 more goose eggs to allow Reno (33-38) to come back and tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the 6th. Unfortunately, Buchanan could not complete the shutdown inning necessary and allowed 3 more runs while recording 2 outs in the top of the 7th. The bullpen retired all 7 hitters they faced, 3 by strikeout, to give the hitters a chance to make another comeback bid. Ultimately, the bid fell short with the tying run getting to the plate in the 9th inning. Randall Delgado pitched a scoreless 8th inning with 1 strikeout as he’s inching closer to returning from oblique and elbow issues.
Hillsboro Hops 1, Everett Aqua Sox 7: Andy Yerzy’s solo homer in the 4th was all the scoring for the Hops (3-1), who combined for 4 hits and 2 walks offensively. The pitching wasn’t great as all four pitchers who appeared for Hillsboro gave up at least one run, with Ryan Ricci being the only pitcher not to allow an earned run.
AZL Dbacks 7, AZL Cubs 0: The first game for the Dbacks’ AZL affiliate went well as the hitting and pitching was excellent. 2nd rounder Alek Thomas had a great pro debut with a 3 hits and a walk in 5 plate appearances. Kristian Robinson had 3 hits in 5 ABs, driving in a run and scoring twice. Joe Gillette had 2 hits, a double, 2 walks, and drove in 4 and Kevin Watson Jr. had the other XBH for the Dbacks. Lane Ratliff pitched 3 scoreless before giving way to Harrison Francis, who pitched 4 scoreless behind him to get the win.
