The Diamondbacks got started early, with a two-run homer from Paul Goldschmidt, not even a handful of pitches into the game. Ketel Marte added a solo shot, and further RBI from Jeff Mathis and Jarrod Dyson pushed the score to 6-0 by the middle of the fourth. Zack Greinke appeared to be cruising, but then allowed back-to-back home-runs to Justin Upton and Albert Pujols. He ended up going 6.1 innings, with three runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Things looked very dicey in the seventh, as the Angels had the tying run at the plate with one out, and Upton launched a pitch deep to center. However, to Upton’s dismay, Jarrod Dyson reeled it in, and the Angels could only manage a sacrifice fly. Jorge De La Rosa looked unimpressive in the eighth, and had to be bailed out by Archie Bradley, who worked a four-out save in the unavailability of Brad Boxberger tonight.
