Minor League Recap 6/17/2018

The Diamondbacks affiliates won four out of five games today, with only the Visalia Rawhide losing

Ryan Atkinson was excellent in his start today for the Jackson Generals, throwing six scoreless innings.

Diamondbacks affiliates won 4 out of 5 games today, with Visalia losing, and Missoula and the two Dominican Summer League Affiliates having the day off. The AZL Dbacks have their season opener tomorrow.

Snake Stars

One Star: Catcher Ryan January 0-3. but picked off a runner at first

Reno Aces 8 Omaha Storm Chasers 6

Braden Hagins pitched 5 innings, giving up 3 runs (two earned, the unearned run coming fielding error by Kevin Cron) on five hits, four walks and just one strikeout. Braden Shipley relieved Hagins, and pitched 2.1 innings, and gave up two runs on six hits and walk. Silvino Bracho pitched the remaining 1.2 innings, and allowed one run on two hits. and allowed an inherited runner to score when he came on to replace Shipley in the eighth.

Ildemaro Vargas extended his hitting streak to 16 games, going 2-4 with a double and a walk, Cesar Puello was 3-5 with a double, and Rey Fuentes was 2-4 with a triple.

Jackson Generals 7 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 0

Ryan Atkinson had an excellent start, going 6.0 innings and giving up just two hits and two walks, while striking out 7, and allowing no runs. Kirby Bellow pitched an inning, giving up 2 hits and a walk, but allowing no runs to score. Daniel GIbson followed with a perfect inning, striking out two. Kevin Ginkel closed it out with a scoreless inning of his own, allowing just a walk, and striking out two.

Kevin Medrano lead the way going 3-4 with a double, triple, and a walk, going just a homer short of the cycle. Galli Cribbs was 2-4 with a stolen base. Domingo Leyba and Dan Robertson were both 2-5.

Visalia Rawhide 1 San Jose Giants 7

Riley Smith had a decent start, giving up just one run in five innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Jordan Smith pitched an inning, and struck out two, but allowed two runs on two hits and an error by Drew Ellis, the two runs being the difference in the game. Junior Garcia followed with a perfect inning in the seventh, striking out two, but Miguel Aguilar had a very rough outing in the eighth. Aguilar allowed a three run home run and solo home run to follow, quickly putting the game out of reach for the Rawhide.

All the offense came off Stephen Smith’s bat, with Smith going 2-4 with a double and a solo home run, the only two extra base hits of the game. Pavin Smith and Dominic Miroglio were both 0-2 with two walks. Adam Walton and Camden Duzenack were both 1-3, the only other hits in the game.

Kane County Cougars 4 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3

Brian Shaffer pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned, with the unearned run coming from a Jasrado Chisholm error) off of 5 hits, and gave up two home runs. Shaffer struck out eight and walked none. Erbert Gonzalez pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits, two walks, and struck out two. Carlos Bustamante pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing a lone double. and striking out two.

All the offense came from home runs, with Ernie De La Trinidad going 2-4 with a solo home run in the second, Jasrado Chisholm going 1-4 with a two run home run in the third, and Tim Susnara going 1-4 with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Gabriel was 1-3 and scored a run in the third off Chisholm’s home run. Yan Sanchez was 2-4. Every Kane County hitter reached base in the game, with only Yoel Yanqui going hitless, but Yanqui had the only Kane County walk in the game.

Hillsboro Hops 3 Everett AquaSox 2

Franklyn Soriano pitched 4 innings, giving 2 runs(one earned) on three hits and two walks, while striking out six. Kyle Stout pitched 1.1 innings, allowing a hit and two walks, and struck out two, allowing no runs. Ethan Larrison pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just a hit and striking out three. Rafael Pujols pitched a perfect inning. and struck out two. Wesley Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing a hit, and struck out a batter.

Francis Martinez provided most of the offense, going 2-3 with a double and a home run. Tra’mayne Holmes was 1-4 with a double, the only other extra base hit in the game. Catcher Ryan January was 0-3, but picked off a runner at first.
