The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined to go 1-2 yesterday with the Kane County Cougars being the one affiliate that won.
Snake Stars:
3 Stars: Jackson SS Jose Vinicio 3 for 5, 2 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 R
2 Stars: Jackson LF Jamie Westbrook 3 for 4, 2 2B, SF, 2 RBI, R
1 Star: Kane County RHP Brian Shaffer 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 3 K, GS 60, W (1-2)
Reno Aces 1, Tacoma Rainiers 3: Taylor Clarke dealt with a lot of traffic on the bases over 5 innings (6 hits, 2 non-intentional walks), but held Tacoma to 2 runs while striking out 6. Unfortunately, the Aces (13-19) offense remained dormant all night save for multi-hit games from Socrates Brito (2 for 4, 2B) and Yasmany Tomas (2 for 3), who accounted for 4 of the Aces 5 hits for the game. Jack Reinheimer had the only RBI for Reno, driving in Michael Perez, but unfortunately that was it. Jared Miller got 5 outs without allowing a run, 3 by strikeouts despite allowing a hit and walking 2. Jake Barrett retired all 4 hitters he faced with a strikeout.
Jackson Generals 4, Chattanooga 6: Missed opportunities came back to bite the Generals (19-11), as they went 3 for 15 with RISP. Jose Vinicio and Jamie Westbrook each had 3 hits and at least 2 doubles while the bottom half of the lineup struggled to pick up the big hit. Sam Lewis was doing fine through 5 innings, but the wheels fell off in a 3-run 6th in which he was only able to pick up 1 out. The bullpen pitched 2 2⁄3 scoreless behind him, but the offense was unable to close the gap before running out of outs.
Kane County Cougars 7, Lake County Captains 1: Brian Shaffer allowed just a solo homer over 7 strong innings, walking 2 and striking out 3. In a 1-1 game, Jazz Chisholm belted out his 4th long ball of the year to give the Cougars (13-15) the lead and the pitching never relinquishing. The Cougars added 4 runs in the 8th after putting on a clinic on how to hit with RISP and taking advantage of opponent’s mistakes in the field. Chisholm finished 2 for 5 with that long ball, Luis Alejandro Basabe had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
