Kris Medlen surrendered seven runs across four innings in his first start since May of 2016. On the other side, Gerrit Cole struck out 16 Diamondbacks en route to a complete game shutout of the snakes.
Kris Medlen walked four and allowed three doubles, leading to seven earned runs in only four innings of work.
Daniel Descalso took the mound in the ninth inning of Arizona’s shutout loss. The righty struck out one (opposing pitcher Gerrit Cole). Dating back to last season, Descalso has allowed no base runners across three appearances and 2 1⁄3 innings.
The Diamondbacks’ third baseman still has inflammation in his shoulder and will be shut down for a few days after receiving a cortisone shot to help with the healing process.
