Snake Bytes 5/5: Cinco Edition

Last night’s matchup between Kris Medlen and Gerrit Cole went how many predicted it would. The loss gives Arizona it’s first losing streak of the season.

Kris Medlen surrendered seven runs across four innings in his first start since May of 2016. On the other side, Gerrit Cole struck out 16 Diamondbacks en route to a complete game shutout of the snakes.

Kris Medlen walked four and allowed three doubles, leading to seven earned runs in only four innings of work.

Descalso Keeps Streak Alive

Daniel Descalso took the mound in the ninth inning of Arizona’s shutout loss. The righty struck out one (opposing pitcher Gerrit Cole). Dating back to last season, Descalso has allowed no base runners across three appearances and 2 13 innings.

Lamb Receives Cortisone Shot

The Diamondbacks’ third baseman still has inflammation in his shoulder and will be shut down for a few days after receiving a cortisone shot to help with the healing process.

Diamondbacks to Sign Clay Buchholz

The Diamondbacks have signed Clay Buchholz to a minor league deal. The right-hander was recently released from his minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals after he exercised his opt-out clause. In 16 minor league innings this season, Buchholz has allowed only one run, but is also sporting a 9:7 K:BB ratio.
