Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 5/16/2018: Extra Inning rule is still dumb

My words for Commissioner Manfred on the crap he’s trying to do in the name of “Speeding up the pace”

The Diamondbacks Minor League Affiliates went 1-2, with the Kane County Cougars picking up an extra inning win and the Reno Aces having the day off.

Snake Stars:

3 Stars: Kane County RHP Jeff Bain 5 23 IP, 5 H, 2 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 3 K, GS 59

2 Stars: Jackson RHP Jon Duplantier 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 7 K, GS 53

1 Star: Kane County LF Ernie De La Trinidad 1 for 3, HR, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R

0 Stars: Visalia CF Marcus Wilson 0 for 4, 3 K

Jake Lamb Rehab: 1 for 3, 2B, played 3B

Jackson Generals 3, Mississippi Braves 7: Jon Duplantier was solid once again, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks with 7 Ks in 5 innings. Unfortunately the Generals (21-18) bullpen imploded with 5 runs allowed in the final 3 frames of the game. Galli Cribbs hit out his 3rd homer of the year, a 2-run shot that put the Generals up 2-1 briefly. The Jackson offense did their best Dbacks offense imitation late, scratching across a run after falling behind 6-2 and getting 3 hits overall.

Visalia Rawhide 2, Lancaster Jet Hawks 4: Riley Smith allowed runs to score in the 2nd-5th innings while the Rawhide (22-18) scored in the 3rd and 4th innings. Smith struck out 5 and walked none but allowed 3 solo homers. Jake Lamb went 1 for 3 at the plate with a double before getting lifted for Stephen Smith late. Pavin Smith went 1 for 4 with a RBI triple (!!!), Daulton Varsho 0 for 4, and Drew Ellis 1 for 3. The Visalia bullpen struck out 5 in 4 scoreless frames, but the offense was unable to make any dent on the scoreboard.

Kane County Cougars 5, Burlington Bees 4: Jeff Bain allowed 2 runs in 5 23 innings with 1 walk and 3 Ks. The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the 5th, but Bain allowed Burlington to score 2 to answer. Ernie De La Trinidad hit out his 2nd homer of the year in the 8th to give Kane County a 4-2 cushion going into the 9th thanks to solid bullpen efforts by Erbert Gonzalez and Jordan Watson. Unfortunately Cole Bartlett allowed the tying runs to score to send the game into extras. Extra inning games in the minors has become extra stupid due to the automatic runner at 2nd to start the inning because a bunt and a sac fly could win a game in that scenario without a batter even earning an XBH. The Cougars got their guy in and Burlington did not.
