Zack Greinke and Jhoulys Chacin were involved in a pitching duel this evening at Chase Field. The Brewers were the first to strike, a pair doubles getting them on the board in the fourth inning. But the D-backs immediately came back to tie things up in their half - though perhaps unsurprisingly, did it despite being hitless with a runner in scoring position. The run scored as Steven Souza hit into a double-play. Greinke was otherwise very solid, and as last start, deserved better than a no-decision. He allowed one run over six innings, on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
After Yoshihisa Hirano worked a scoreless seventh and Archie Bradley the eighth, Arizona poked their noses in front in the eighth. Jeff Mathis worked a lead-off walk, and pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson advanced on a sacrifice bunt and groundout. Who else but Daniel Descalso then came through with another clutch hit, driving in the go-ahead run with two outs. Brad Boxberger then worked around an ugly error for the save, ending the Arizona losing streak.
