So this is how the team lines up, with Chris Owings the first man to take over for Pollock in center field. With a right-hander on the mound, you might be wondering why they didn’t go with Jarrod Dyson, but Zack Buchanan reports Dyson “has been dealing with some back tightness,” but stresses it is “Not considered serious.” Daniel Descalso starts at third, but it will be interesting to see what happens when Jake Lamb returns, which is probably only a couple of days away. We know the long-term struggles of Lamb against southpaw pitching, so we could see a “platoon” of sorts, with two left-handed batters. Descalso’s career OPS vs. LHP is only 23 points below his RHP figure.
In case you missed it, the diagnosis for A.J. Pollick is an avulsion fracture of his left thumb, with an estimated recovery time of 4-8 weeks - something of a broad range there. The team made official the expected roster move, with Christian Walker being promoted from Reno to take Pollock’s roster spot, as he goes onto the DL. Worth remembering that Walker does have a fair bit of left-field experience, so he could see playing time there, if we wanted an all-righty outfield of him, Chris Owings and Steven Souza. Keep an eye out for that on Saturday, when we face left-hander Stephen Matz in New York
Greinke was wonderfully effective last time out, and deserved a much better fate than having the W taken away from him by Archie Bradley’s blown pick-off move. It’s time for him to earn his million dollars for this start, and ensure the Brewers do not extend the losing streak any further. If he needs to drive in all the runs himself, so be it. :) But having swapped imstillhungry95 for this recap, I’m requesting - nay, demanding! - the Diamondbacks win tonight. If not, there will be... trouble.
