The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined to go 3-1 with Jackson, Visalia, and Kane County getting big wins. This seems to be a pattern these days.
Snake Stars:
3 Stars: Visalia RHP Connor Gray 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K, GS 84, W (3-0)
2 Stars: Jackson RHP Sam Lewis 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, GS 71, W (2-1)
1 Star: Visalia C Dominic Miroglio 2 for 3, 2 2B, SF, RBI, R
0 Stars: Visalia SS Camden Duzenack 0 for 5, 3 K
Reno Aces 5, El Paso Chihuahuas 6: Kris Medlen got banged around for 6 runs in 4 2⁄3 innings, allowing 6 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. Unfortunately, that put the Aces (4-11) in a 6-0 hole in the 5th although they clawed their way to a 1-run game after 6 innings. A 4-run outburst in the 5th with solid work by the bottom of the order turning the lineup over where the guys at the top drove them in followed by a single tally in the 6th gave the Aces life. The Aces managed to get the trying run on base in the final 3 frames, but were left stranded in all 3.
Jackson Generals 8, Birmingham Barons 3: The Generals (11-2) took control early as they scored two runs each in the first three innings. On the mound, Sam Lewis walked 2 and struck out 5 in 5 innings, not allowing a single hit while on the mound. Everyone in the lineup contributed in some way, shape, or form in the game with 5 players picking up multi-hit games.
Visalia Rawhide 4, Stockton Ports 0: Connor Gray was sensational with 7 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and walking 2 while punching out 12 hitters. Gray is one of those guys where he doesn’t pop in terms of stuff or strikeout totals, but he keeps pitching well at every stop. Offensively, the Rawhide (9-6) did enough to make Gray a winner. Pavin Smith went 1 for 4 with a walk, Daulton Varsho walked twice despite an 0 for 3, Drew Ellis doubled in a 1 for 4 day while also drawing a walk, and Marcus Wilson had a 3 for 5 day at the plate.
Kane County Cougars 4, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2: Kane County took a 4-0 lead after 3 1⁄2 innings and the pitching helped that stand. Jeff Bain was one out short of qualifying for a win with 4 2⁄3 innings of 2 run ball with 5 strikeouts although he walked 4. Kane County took advantage of 6 walks by going 5 for 14 with RISP. Luis Alejandro Basabe, Yoel Yanqui, and Eudy Ramos each had 2-hit games for the Cougars.
