Minor League Recap 4/13/2018: Extra, Extra, Extra Innings

Three out of four of the Dbacks’ Minor League Affiliates went to extra innings tonight, all with the same result

Colin Poche Strikeouts Shohei Otani in Spring Training

Snake Stars

Four Stars - Colin Poche 2 IP 5 Ks (15 ks in 6IP in 2018)

Three Stars - Ernie De La Trinidad 4-4 with a HR

Two Stars - Juniel Querecuto 3-4 with 3B and BB

One Stars - Pavin Smith 1-5 with a SB

Zero Stars - Socrates Brito, OF Reno 0-5, 2 Ks, 6 LOB

Reno Aces 6, Fresno Grizzlies 7

Matt Koch had a solid start in this one, going 6 innings, striking out one and giving up just three hits and no runs, but the bullpen spoiled this one. The Aces were up 4-0 in the eighth, with the game in the bag, only for the Grizzlies to rally and score 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, and scored another run in the ninth which sent the game into to extra innings. The Aces had it all wrapped up again after scoring 2 runs in top of the 12th inning, but the Grizzlies again rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning to win it. C Michael Perez was 2-5 with a double and a walk, OF Cody Decker was 2-5 with a home run

Jackson Generals 5, Tennessee Smokies 6

Tennessee scored three runs early in the third inning, but Jackson would rally to score four runs in the seventh, only for Tennessee to tie back up at the bottom of the inning. The game would go into extra innings all the way to the 11th inning, when the Generals would score to pull ahead, only for the Smokies to score two runs to walk it off at the bottom of the inning.

LHP Colin Poche had an impressive two innings pitched once again, striking out five and allowing no hits, walks, or runs. On the season, he’s struck out 15 in just six innings pitched. SS Juniel Querecuto had a nice night at the plate, going 3-4 with a triple and a walk on the night.

Modesto Nuts 4, Visalia Rawhide 3

This game was déjà vu all over again. A solid start by starter Riley Smith - 7 strikeouts to just 1 walk, 2 earned runs over 5.2 innings pitched, but not enough runs by Visalia, so on to extra innings. Visalia rallies in the 10th inning, only for Modesto to score two runs in the bottom of the inning. In every one of these innings, the runner starting at second to start the inning applied, at it is doubtful if the game would have won without that extra runner. I am absolutely against the rule. Ramon Hernandez had a solid game, going 2-4 with a HR and a walk. Pavin Smith was 1-5 with a stolen base.

Kane County Cougars 6, Beloit Snappers 9

RHP Brian Shaffer had a rough outing, giving up 6 earned runs on 10 hits and a walk in just four innings pitched, and the Snappers would add on three more runs, thus making this one never really in reach for the Cougars to win at all. SS Jasrado Chisholm had an excellent game in this one, going 2-4 with a home run and a walk, but CF Ernie De La Trinidad would have an even better night at the plate, going 4-4 with a home run himself.
