Diamondbacks line-up

  1. David Peralta, LF
  2. A.J. Pollock, CF
  3. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
  4. Jake Lamb, 3B
  5. Ketel Marte, 2B
  6. Alex Avila, C
  7. Nick Ahmed, SS
  8. Jarrod Dyson, RF
  9. Patrick Corbin, P

Much of the above, particularly at the top of the order, will be familiar from what we saw in spring training. Marte plays second-base as expected, although hitting as high as fifth is something of a surprise. He has never hit at the position in the order during his time with Arizona, with over 60% of his PAs coming in the seventh or eighth spots. I guess he has to start earning that big contract now! Avila gets to catch Corbin, probably leveraging the platoon edge over Jeff Mathis with a right-handed starter on the mound for Colorado. No room for Chris Owings, with Dyson making his MLB debut as a Diamondback.

This will be Goldschmidt’s seventh Opening Day start, just one behind franchise leader Luis Gonzalez, who had eight. It will be Pollock’s fifth, while Peralta, Lamb and Ahmed now have three apiece. Marte, Avila, Dyson and Corbin will be getting their first Opening Day start for the Diamondbacks. And if you want a flashy, more visual version of the above... We have you covered!
