Spring Training Gameday Thread, #23: 3/18 @ Reds

Over on the West side come the D-backs. I can almost see Goodyear from here!

  2. Kris Negron 2B
  3. Ketel Marte SS

  8. Rey Fuentes CF
  9. Zack Godley P

Think it’s the first time we haven’t had a designated hitter in the line-up, so should mean the first time we’ll see a pitcher hitting - presuming Godley can get through three innings. So cross off another milestone on the road to Opening Day: pitchers in the batter’s box! Godley has been excellent this spring, not allowing a run over 8.2 innings. The number of D-backs who have thrown 10+ innings in the pre-season without allowing a run is a short one: since 2005, it’s J.J. Hoover (10 IP, 2017) and Josh Collmenter. The latter is particularly impressive, since he did it in consecutive seasons, throwing 13 innings in 2015 after 12.2 in 2014. For tomorrow, I’ll dig into exactly how long a scoreless streak that was.

Good news on the Groinke front, with Zack giving a glowing report on the status of his groin after his bullpen session.

Fingers crossed this is indeed the case, and it’s not Greinke being sarcastic... This afternoon’s game is on Fox Sports Arizona, so I’m hoping we’ll get more than the single in-game comment we managed yesterday! I hope we have all slept off those St. Patrick’s hangovers...
