Arizona Diamondbacks make five roster moves

Socrates Brito is the highest-profile name re-assigned.

Optioned to Triple-A Reno:

  • OF Sócrates Brito
  • INF Jack Reinheimer
  • INF Ildemaro Vargas

Reassigned to Minor League camp:

  • OF Ramón Flores
  • RHP Jake Buchanan

Reinheimer, Vargas and Buchanan all made into “The Bad” section when we looked at the spring training stats through the first 20 games, with the hitters both having an OPS below .450, while Buchanan’s ERA was in double-digits. So their departure is likely not surprising. Flores was also struggling, having gone 4-for-28 in the pre-season. Brito hasn’t been getting much in the way of playing-time, having only had 14 at-bats, though a decent K:BB ratio of 5:3 helped Socrates to a slash line of .214/.353/.429 for a reasonable .782 OPS. But with the likes of Yasmany Tomas, Cesar Puello and Rey Fuentes all above a thousand, Brito’s status as the forgotten man of the outfield looks likely to continue,

The Diamondbacks now have 46 players left in camp.
