Diamondbacks Hire Darnell Coles as Hitting Coach

The offseason of change continues.

After the Arizona offense failed to adapt to Dave Magadan’s instruction in 2018, the team let the hitting coach go once the season was over. They have now found his replacement in Darnell Coles.

The 56-year-old Coles played in the majors from 1983-1995. Then throughout the 2000s, Coles bounced around as a hitting instructor and minor league manager for various levels within the Washington and Milwaukee organizations. In 2013, he became an assistant coach for the Detroit Tigers. In 2014, he returned to Milwaukee as their hitting coach. He departed the Brewers organization at the end of this season where he helped guide the Milwaukee Brewers to an appearance in the NLCS.

Under the guidance of Coles, Milwaukee ranked 12th in runs scored (754), 11th in hits (1,398), 12th in average (.252) and ninth in OPS (.747).
