If you were hoping for a sequel to the offensive explosion from last night, you would have been sorely disappointed. Both Zack Grienke and Hyun-jin Ryu brought their best stuff for the showdown tonight. Grienke continued the stretch of amazing Diamondbacks pitching that’s been going on recently. He ended up with a final line of seven innings pitched, only four hits, one run, six strike outs, and only one walk. He more than did his part to preserve both the winning streak and the streak of innings without trailing.
The offense wasn’t able to manage a whole lot at all off Ryu tonight. The only real threat they had against him was runners at first and second with no outs, but even then they were only able to manage the one run. You have to tip your hat to him. He quieted a very potent offense when his team needed to the most.
The game stayed tied through the ninth inning, sending it to the tenth. The Diamondbacks got two runners on, and one out, for Brandon Drury. He hit a ground ball to Justin Turner who threw it to Yasmany Grandal. Grandal couldn’t come up with it, and both runners scored. Fernando Rodney came in for the bottom of the tenth for the save, and the Dbacks won. Full, very happy, recap to follow shortly!
