It ends at Chase Field as it begins - with a walk-off win over the Giants

A very successful season at Chase Field for the 2017 Arizona Diamondbacks ended this afternoon, and did so as it had begun on Opening Day. Trailing in the bottom of the ninth, the D-backs scored three on a J.D. Martinez homer, John Ryan Murphy groundout and a walk-off walk to David Peralta with the bases loaded. Up until that point, all the scoring the offense could manage, came on Jake Lamb’s fifth inning home-run, which was the 29th home-run of the year for him.

Braden Shipley started, and didn’t look very sharp, allowing three runs over 3.1 innings, on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. But the bullpen did their job, holding San Francisco scoreless for 5.2 frames, on two hits and two walks, with six K’s. Jake Barrett led the way, with a pair of scoreless innings. In an appropriate piece of vacuum-based synchronicity, J.J. Hoover got the win and Sam Dyson took the loss!

Next time at Chase Field, it counts...
