Usually it’s a good sign when your starter takes the mound with a lead, but it didn’t work out too well for the Diamondbacks tonight. AJ Pollock lead the game off with a home run, but that was the highlight of the night for Arizona.
Godley just didn’t have it tonight. He gave up two runs in the bottom of the first, and then he gave up three more in the third. He never really found his control, and the Padres made him pay.
The bullpen didn’t do too badly, holding the Padres to just one run, but the offense was never able to show up, much less catch up from the early deficit. The only Dback who really was able to hit tonight was Pollock, with two home runs and a double to lead off the ninth, but when no one is on in front of hits like that, it makes it difficult to do a whole lot of damage. Full recap to follow shortly.
