Patrick Corbin was charged with six runs over six innings, scattering seven hits and two walks. However this was actually a quality start: he did strikeout ten, and also saw his season ERA drop to 4.76. That’s because half of those runs were unearned, coming as the result of a throwing error by Ketel Marte and a missed tag by Daniel Descalso. Jake Barrett and Jorge De La Rosa each threw scoreless innings of relief.
The Diamondbacks actually had the lead, as a result of - inevitably - a Paul Goldschmidt RBI double in the first inning. They had some chances, getting single runs in the fourth and seventh, coming home on a single by Descalso and a groundout from David Peralta, but the team were not able to get the big hit when they needed it, and also had another runner thrown out at home. Descalso had two hits and Jake Lamb a hit and a walk. However, the Rockies, Cubs and Brewers did all lose today, so the wild-card standings remain unchanged at the top.
FameisJameis69 will be along with the full recap in a bit.
