Snake Bytes 8/3: It is Now “The Godley Trade”, Not “The Montero Trade”

Zack Godley pitches his second consecutive scoreless start as the D-backs shut out the Cubs. The other Zack pitches today for the series win in Chicago.

Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 0

Zack Godley had a couple of Ungodleylike starts in July, but he has rebounded in a big way going 13 scoreless innings in his past two starts. He’s still young, so it is always concerning when a player like that struggles for a bit. But his ERA is back under 3.00 and he outpitches Jake Arrieta. Thank you Cubs for throwing him in the Montero deal. Nice to see Jake Lamb break out of his slump. When he’s hitting well, the D-backs seem to roll.

D-backs Fight for Playoff Positioning

It was a good day for the Diamondbacks. They beat the Cubs while the Brewers, Rockies, and Dodgers all lost. Sure the Dodgers probably have the NL West, but it’s still nice to see them lose.

Robbie Ray Returns to Phoenix for Exam

Today is Ray’s turn in the rotation, but since the D-backs had a recent day-off, they can just skip him and use Greinke on normal rest. Thank you for not bringing up a AAA starter for the game. I miss the days when guys like Johnson and Shilling pitched every 5 days, which meant a day off for the team was just a day off for the 5th starter. Greinke should be starting today and will be. As for Robbie Ray, let’s hope his exam goes well.

Bickley: Lawyers, Playoff Teams Don’t Mix

Bickley doesn’t like the situation and neither do most fans. Lawyers and politicians are masters of posturing and leverage. Winning baseball is actually an ideal time for the Diamondbacks to score some points. The Valley is a huge area. In football, only 8 games a year are played at home, so having a stadium at the edge of town works fine. But both sides must know that downtown Phoenix makes the most sense for the Diamondbacks. Would they really build another stadium? Move to Montreal? Please.

J.D. Martinez Has Been Deadly Since Deadline

A nice article that shows how helpful J.D. Martinez has been. It was the right trade at the right time.

Real or Not? Diamondbacks Could Be October Surprise

Every once in a while, a national writer will stumble across a statistic like the D-backs being second to the Dodgers in starting pitching and write an article about how the D-backs shouldn’t be written off. I never wrote the D-backs off in the first place, but always nice to get some love.

Saves Leader Holland Out After Kitchen Accident

This shows that bad luck happens to all teams, including the Rockies. Zack Greinke, make sure you don’t do any cooking yourself, you can afford a chef, thank you.

Dodgers MLB-record Streak Stopped by Braves

It has become news when the Dodgers lose a game. Losing a few more this month will be nice.
