That could have gone better.

T.J. McFarland’s spot start lasted one out this afternoon. He was lifted with the Twins having already scored five runs against him. Braden Shipley completed the self-immolation, allowing a grand-slam later in the first inning, which ended with Minnesota 9-0 up. Shipley ended up going 5.2 innings in relief, allowing five runs. Jimmie Sherfy made his debut in the seventh, and Daniel Descalso worked a 1-2-3 eighth, for his second emergency relief appearance.

The D-backs ended the streak of consecutive runs for the Twins at 25, when J.D. Martinez homered in the fourth. There were also home-runs for Brandon Drury and Jake Lamb. Torey Lovullo was ejected from the game in the seventh inning, for arguing after warnings were issued to both benches. Drury had three of the Diamondbacks eight hits, while Adam Rosales and David Peralta had RBI hits, but they were swept out of Minnesota by a combined score of 27-8.
