A night after the Diamondbacks’ staff allowed 16 runs, Zack Godley and three relievers combined on a three-hit shutout of the Chicago Cubs. Godley worked six innings, allowing the three hits and two walks, while striking out five. Andrew Chafin, Archie Bradley and Fernando Rodney then combined for three perfect innings of relief, retiring all nine batters they faced.
The offense did a little less than yesterday, managing only four hits. But Jake Lamb came through big when it counted, driving in all three Arizona runs. He had the key blow in the sixth, breaking a scoreless tie with a double into the right-field corner which scored two runs, and then had another double the other way in the eighth inning for his third RBI. Chris Iannetta reached base three times, on a hit and two walks. David Peralta had our other hit, as well as a base on balls.
