The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled RHP Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno. Following yesterday’s game, the D-backs optioned RHP Jake Barrett to Reno.
Bracho, 25, has appeared in 10 games over 6 stints with the D-backs this season, posting a 5.23 ERA (6 ER in 10.1 IP) with a .200 opponent average (8-for-40), 3 walks and 11 strikeouts. He has not allowed a run in his last 4 appearances, and has limited righties to a .182 average (4-for-22) overall. In 29 relief appearances for Reno, Bracho is 3-2 with 5 saves and a 4.60 ERA (16 ER in 31.1 IP).
Barrett, 26, is 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA (7 ER in 15.2 IP) in 16 games with Arizona in 2017.
Barrett’s fate was likely sealed after he became the first D-backs reliever in more than a decade to give up three home-runs in a single appearance, as the Chicago Cubs teed off on him. He hadn’t done badly to that point, posting an ERA below two. So this may be as much about getting a fresh arm into the bullpen, during a long stretch of 20 games in 20 days.
As the picture on top of this article suggests, it looks likely that outfielder David Peralta will be going on the paternity list as well.
After a long day, long night and a long morning finally princess Sofia has arrived worth… https://t.co/EYt1LoR2oV— David Peralta (@dperalta6) August 14, 2017
The team has not made any official announcement of that to this point, however, or announced who would temporarily replace Peralta on the Diamondbacks roster. We’ll update this as appropriate.
UPDATED. J.J. Hoover has been recalled from Reno, with Peralta indeed going on the paternity list. So we’ll be an outfielder short, but have an additional bullpen arm for a bit.
