This is one of those games that missed opportunities against a struggling pitcher early on in the game can be blamed for the loss. Lance Lynn labored through the first few innings struggling with his command giving up 5 walks. The D-backs showed some questionable situational hitting with runners on the bases. Taijuan Walker was swinging for the fences with a runner on third and less than two outs. Chris Owings (51 RBIs) tried to lay down a bunt with two outs and the bases loaded. Come on Taijuan, you already hit a bomb to celebrate your fatherhood, please go back to trying to make solid contact. As for Owings, it turned out very badly. But July is over and August baseball can commence.

Owings Returns to Arizona With a Broken Finger
Chris Owings has been important to the D-backs success this year. His utility will be missed more than his SS play. Ketel Marte will now be the everyday shortstop, but that might of been the case regardless. If Brandon Drury can get out of his slump, the D-backs will be able to weather this storm while they wait for Ahmed and Owings to return to action, hopefully by September.
Ray Grateful He Wasn’t Seriously Injured
It is not often you get three staples in the head and a concussion, yet still consider yourself lucky. This is one of those times.
D-backs Targeting Relief Help as Deadline Nears
We will know by tonight if the D-backs make a move. Will it be a reliever? Maybe a middle infielder is needed now? Maybe nothing. We will find out.

Jeff Bagwell, Ivan Rodriguez Speeches Highlight Hall of Fame Ceremony
Congratulation to the great players enshrined. Bud Selig never played, did he? Once again, congratulations to the great players. I mentioned Jeff Bagwell last time a D-back got hit in the hand with a pitch. Once again, I’d like to see players use those Bagwell bulletproof batting gloves. Perhaps, they will have them on display in Cooperstown. These hand injuries are maddening.
Jaime Garcia Traded to New York, Becomes Poor-man’s Mike Piazza
A great headline. You have to read the last paragraph of this FanGraphs article to know how you can compare a starting pitcher to Mike Piazza.
Rangers 3B Beltre Joins Elite 3,000-hit Club
An amazing accomplishment that is a testament not only to great hitting, but also longevity. Plenty of great hitters in baseball who never reached this milestone. Congratulation Adrian, you are in elite company now.
Red Sox Trade for Mets Closer Addison Reed
My first thought is to grumble and say good luck with that. But Addison is having a great year. We’ll see how it goes.
