Arizona Diamondbacks 2, St. Louis Cardinals 3

Martinez homered and drove in three runs. Unfortunately, it was the wrong Martinez.

The D-backs had a chance to take a commanding lead when Lance Lynn lost the strike-zone completely in the second. He walked four batters, including Daniel Descalso with the bases loaded, but all Arizona could get otherwise was a Chris Iannetta sacrifice fly. The Diamondbacks also suffered a blow, losing Chris Owings after he was hit on the hand by a pitch. I’ll just refer you to my earlier article...

Taijuan Walker looked good early on, but a mistake pitch to Jose Martinez in the fourth was deposited into the Busch Stadium bleachers for a two-run homer that tied the game. Walker left in the sixth after allowing a go-ahead sacrifice fly, also to Martinez. He went 5.2 innings, and was charged with three runs on four hits and three walks with ten strikeouts. The D-backs’ bullpen kept things close the rest of the way, but the offense were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Still, I think we’ll take a split of what could have been a trap series, especially given the unfortunate second game.

The full guest recap will be along later. Probably quite a lot later, as a) the guest recapper red_leader, is at the game, and b) I’m taking Mrs. SnakePit out for dinner and a birthday movie. It’ll be here eventually though!
