Robbie Ray was hit in the head by a line-drive and had to leave the game in the second inning.

A scary moment at Busch Stadium this evening, after Arizona’s Robbie Ray took a liner off the back off the head, and crumpled down by the mound. He was tended to for several minutes, and was eventually able to make his way to a cart and leave the field. He has been taken to hospital for observation, but fingers crossed, this appears to be precautionary. A concussion DL stint would not surprise me, but it could really have been an awful lot worse.

There was a baseball game still. T.J. McFarland, Rubby De La Rosa and Andrew Chafin did a good job in emergency long relief, and an unearned run in the sixth inning proved to be all the scoring either side could muster. The Diamondbacks had a great chance to come back in the eighth, putting men on second and third with no outs, but were unable to get the tying run across the plate. But for now, it’s all our thoughts and prayers for Robbie Ray, and a speedy recovery.
