Preview #95: Arizona Diamondbacks @ Cincinnati Reds

After a major letdown on Wednesday, the Diamondbacks look to salvage the series by taking the matinee rubber game.

I think we can all agree that yesterday did not go quite according to plan. Although Zack Greinke was not dominant, he managed to tough out five innings. Unfortunately, the offense struggled against the Reds’ pitching. To top matters matters off, J.D. Martinez, brought in specifically to boost the offense, lasted only two at-bats, getting hit in the hand during the second one. Thankfully, the x-rays came back negative. He will still be getting the day off today. It is unlikely he is even going to be available to pinch-hit, barring some sort of strange circumstances coming together.

Despite the team’s struggles, the matinee after extra innings in the hot and humid conditions has Torey Lovullo running out the B-/C lineup this afternoon. Of course, complaining about has often resulted in unexpected explosions of runs.

We can only hope, right?
