Reno Aces All Star Break

Jackson Generals 1, Mississippi Braves 0: The Generals shut out the Braves for the 2nd night in a row, this time behind the arm of Alex Young. Young allowed 2 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings, striking out 4. Jamie Westbrook went 2 for 4 with a double and scored the only run of the game on a Domingo Leyba groundout. Scoreless innings from Bud Jeter (2) and Mason McCullough (1) took the game to the 9th where Yuhei Nakaushiro pitched a scoreless 9th for the save.

Visalia Rawhide 8, Lake Elsinore Storm 3: In a battle between two pitching prospects in Jacob Nix and Jose Almonte, it was Almonte who had the better game. Almonte allowed 3 runs on 7 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts over 6 23 innings. Matt McPhearson, Jason Morozowski, and Grant Heyman each drove in a pair in the win. Cameron Gann came in with 2 on in the 7th and got out of that jam and got 3 more outs in the 8th, snuffing out any hopes of a Storm comeback.

Kane County Cougars 1, Beloit Snappers 3: The Cougars could not get the offense going in the game, getting only 7 hits and 9 baserunners for the game while fanning 13 times. They were able to scratch a run across in the 9th to avoid the shutout. Ryan Atkinson allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and a walk with 9 strikeouts over 5 13 innings and took the loss.

Hillsboro Hops 3, Spokane Indians 6: Drew Ellis smacked out his 2nd homer of the year, a solo shot that gave the Hops an early 1-0 lead. However, Connor Grey did not have his best performance, allowing 4 runs over 4 innings to put the Hops behind 4-3. A 6th inning meltdown from Kevin Ginkel made things harder, as 2 runs came to score. After that point, the Hops weren’t able to muster out any sort of offense. Pavin Smith went 2 for 4 with an RBI in the loss.

Missoula Osprey 5, Helena Brewers 9: The home run bug bit Franklyn Soriano, who allowed 6 runs while not getting out of the first inning. The Osprey were in an early 7-0 hole, but started to make an effort to get the game closer with 3 runs in the 5th and the 6th inning, including a 2-run homer from Joey Rose against Jayson Rose (not related). The Osprey scored twice and had 2 runners on with 2 outs in the 9th, but were unable to get the tying run to the plate.

AZL Dbacks 6, AZL Athletics 0: A one-sided game where the Dbacks bats went completely silent with only 2 hits over 9 innings. Edgar Martinez allowed 4 runs in 5 innings with 2 of them being unearned.
