Arizona Diamondbacks: June Confidence poll

The first third of the season is in the books, and has gone better than almost anyone could have hoped. Does that translate into fan confidence?

A month’s worth of games were in the books, and the Diamondbacks had surprised everyone with their early season form, going 16-11 to sit just one-half game back in the NL West. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in a significant surge of fan confidence.

  • 1% - 1 (not confident in the slightest)
  • 0% - 2
  • 1% - 3
  • 4% - 4
  • 10% - 5
  • 23% - 6
  • 41% - 7
  • 13% - 8
  • 6% - 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

“7” was the big winner this time, surging up from 16% to more than two and a half times as much, and becoming the most popular single choice since “1” back in the bleak, late winter of Dave Stewart’s tenure. “8” also expanded significantly, to become the third most-popular choice. The bottom half of the vote almost entirely imploded, with just 6% going for less than a five, compared to 30% who went there on Opening Day. Here’s a chart showing the individual scores for each category.

A slight change in presentation for the overall score. Rather than just showing the last 12 months in chronological order, I’m taking up the suggestion of overlaying the 2017 confidence scores, over the ones at the same point last year, which will give us a good comparison. It’s particularly appropriate we do it here, because the early surge pushed the overall confidence score on May 1 to 6.57. That “crossed the line” from 2016 for the first time, and is the highest confidence has been since Opening Day last year. Which makes sense, I guess. Here’s the chart.

The month since that vote has, if anything gone slightly better, the D-backs going 17-11 in May. Not without its share of confidence bumps - a couple of modest three-game losing streaks, certainly triggered their share of concern. But the team sits in a playoff spot, with only one team in baseball having won more games, at time of writing on Friday afternoon. Where will confidence now sit? That, as ever, is what the poll below (not available on Google AMP) is for - and the comments will let you explain your choice, and the reasons for any change...
