For the weekend, the Diamondbacks will carry 4 outfielders and 8 relief pitchers as they’ve sent OF Jeremy Hazelbaker to AAA Reno and recalled RHP Silvino Bracho. With Randall Delgado set to make a start on Sunday to push back the rotation a day after Zack Greinke, Taijuan Walker, and Zack Godley made their previous start at Coors Field. It made sense to move them back a day because playing at higher altitude is more taxing for players who aren’t used to it.
The current bullpen wasn’t heavily taxed, although Jorge De La Rosa and TJ McFarland scuffled a bit last night and had extended appearances. On Sunday, Delgado probably at most can give the team 4, maybe 5 innings, which means the bullpen will have a lot of work. Ideally Robbie Ray gives the team a long start so the middle relievers don’t have to pitch tonight, but rather when they’ll be needed tomorrow.
