Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 6/1/17: Runs galore

All four teams scored at least seven times, as the D-backs affiliates swept the board.

  • 0 stars: Matt Jones, Visalia: 0-for-4, 2 SO [the only man in the system yesterday to get 4+ AB without a hit!]

Triple-A Reno 9, Las Vegas 2 - The seventh-inning stretch was followed by a six-run surge, as the Aces broke this open, sending 12 to the plate. It included homers by 2B Ildemaro Vargas (#4) and RF Oswaldo Arcia (#12). SS Ketel Marte (above) hit his 2nd HR in the 5th. Vargas had two hits and a walk, and LF Jeremy Hazelbaker three hits plus a stolen-base. Aaron Laffey improved to 2-0 with seven innings of two-run ball, on five hits and three walks, with five strikeouts.

Double-A Jackson 7, Mississippi 6 - Two errors in the last of the ninth helped 3B Dawel Lugo score a walk-off run, as the Generals came back from 6-2 down in the middle of the second. Starter Joel Payamps rebounded to work six frames, and half of those six runs were unearned; he allowed seven hits, walking none with four K’s. Lugo doubled and tripled, driving in four runs. 2B Kevin Medrano had three hits and a walk, LF Stewart Ijames two hits, and SS Colin Walsh drew an impressive four bases on balls.

High-A Visalia 9, Rancho Cucamonga 5 - The Rawhide got 13 hits, led by 3B Marty Herum, who finished a double short of the cycle, driving in four. It included his fourth homer. SS Sergio Alcantara also had a three-hit night, and 3B Henry Castillo hit his second home-run of the season. Justin Donatella struck out eight over his five innings, scattering seven hits and two walks. He was charged with five runs, four earned. Cameron Gann fanned three over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.

A-ball Kane County 10, Burlington 4 - The top of the order got it done for the Cougars, slots 1-4 combining to go 10-for-19 with six RBI and seven runs. RF Ben DeLuzio and 1B Mark Karaviotis each had three hits, while CF Anfernee Grier, got two hits, a walk and scored three times. Kane County actually trailed 3-2 after six, despite a solid outing from Mack Lemieux, who held the Bees to one earner run over five IP, on five hits. Tyler Mark got the win for three scoreless frames, as KC’s offense poured it on late.
