Snake Stars:
3 Stars: Reno SS Ketel Marte 2 for 3, 2B, HR (6), 2 BB, 2 RBI, 2 R
2 Stars: Visalia RHP Jose Almonte 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 5 K, GS 60, W (5-5)
1 Star: Kane County LHP Mack Lemieux 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 6 K, GS 58, W (2-2)
0 Stars: Hillsboro RHP Conner Gray 2 2⁄3 IP, 7 H, 6 R (6 ER), 1 BB, 2 K, GS 18, L (0-1)
Reno Aces 7, Las Vegas 51s 3: Anthony Banda walked 7 hitters and allowed 2 home runs in his start and somehow managed to only give up 3 runs in what I think is the luckiest run prevention start since Edwin Jackson’s no-hitter in 2010. The other team didn’t have the same luck as the Aces took the lead two batters into the bottom of the 1st on a Ketel Marte 2-run homer. The offense continued to pile on, eventually scoring 7 runs. If you remember Hansel Robles and his outing against the Dbacks on May 15th, the Dbacks AAA team also knocked him around the park.
Jackson Generals 2, Birmingham Barons 7: The Generals could not sustain any offense, which is a bummer, especially when facing Bummer on the mound. Josh Taylor had another subpar outing with 5 runs allowed in 4 innings of work with 5 strikeouts. Honestly he should just move to the bullpen now and save the AAA and MLB managers work. Colin Walsh reached base twice and scored both times to lead the offense. The game was actually called in the 8th inning because who wants to see bad baseball in bad weather?
Visalia Rawhide 5, San Jose Giants 2: Jose Almonte delivered another solid start, allowing 1 run in 5 innings while striking out 5. The Rawhide were quick to give him run support with 3 runs in the first two innings. Matt McPhearson and Matt Jones each had 2 hits, drove in a run, and scored twice in the game although the former also added a pair of stolen bases. The bullpen did a solid job with scoreless outings Trevor Simms and Keegan Long.
Kane County Cougars 6, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2: Mack Lemieux had a solid start for Kane County as he gave up 2 runs in 5 innings and struck out 6. The Cougars did their damage in the middle innings, despite having their best two players out of the lineup. Ben DeLuzio, Manny Jefferson, Jose Queliz, and Fernery Ozuna all had 3-hit games in the win. Vargas pitched 4 scoreless innings for the save, entering a 5-2 game and taking the team to the finish line.
Hillsboro Hops 3, Everett Aqua Sox 6: Connor Grey got blasted in the early stages of the game and the team couldn’t dig out of an early 6-0 hole. They did make an effort of it in the 4th inning when Cole Thompson hit a bases-clearing double to make it 6-3, but they couldn’t get any walks or errors strung together with their hits to do much offensively. In his 2nd rehab game, Domingo Leyba went 1 for 4 with a double and played the entire game at shortstop.
