Snake Stars:
3 Stars: Kane County RF Luis Silverio 3 for 4, 2 HR (2,3), SB, 3 RBI
2 Stars: Visalia RHP Bo Takahashi 6 1⁄3 IP, 5 H, 1 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 8 K, GS 73, W (4-2)
1 Star: Kane County 3B Ramon Hernandez 2 for 4, 2-run homer (2)
0 Stars: Reno RHP Braden Shipley 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R (5 ER), 3 BB, 7 K, GS 44, L (5-2)
Reno Aces 2, Sacramento River Cats 5: Braden Shipley got knocked around for 5 runs in 5 innings, surrendering 6 hits and walking 3 while striking out 7. I’m starting to get concerned that Shipley is turning into a bust after being drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft. There wasn’t much offense either as the Aces didn’t get many scoring opportunities overall.
Jackson Generals 3, Tennessee Smokies 5: Gabe Speier allowed 1 run in 5 innings, but lost because the rest of the roster conspired to do so. Alex Young and Miller Diaz both allowed 2 runs each after Speier’s solid start, making a small hole bigger and burying the team. The Generals hitters struggled to hit with men on base despite receiving 6 walks in the game.
Visalia Rawhide 3, San Jose Giants 2: Bo Takahashi clearly feels slighted for not being on my Top 30 prospect list and is doing everything in his power to make the next one. Takahashi spun 6 1⁄3 innings of 1 run ball, with 8 strikeouts vs. no walks. He’s quietly having a great year for the organization and at only 20 years old he’s starting to pick up some steam as a potential prospect. The offense did enough to make him a winner, scoring a total of 3 times in the 4th and 5th inning. The bullpen did enough to keep the lead with Bud Jeter picking up his 14th save.
Kane County Cougars 7, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3: Luis Silverio homered to lead off the game and the Cougars led the game from that point to the end. For good measure, Silverio added a 2nd homer in as many innings to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead after 1 1⁄2 innings. On the mound, the Cougars went with a bullpen game with Sam Lewis allowing 3 runs in 3 1⁄3 innings. The rest of the bullpen was outstanding, especially Colin Poche with 3 1⁄3 innings of 1-hit ball and 7 strikeouts while being rewarded with the victory.
