Triple-A Reno 7 @ Sacramento 6. It doesn’t get more dramatic than this. Christian Walker hit a grand-slam (his 9th HR) with two outs in the ninth inning, as the Aces came from 6-1 down. RF Jeremy Hazelbaker had a two-run single earlier in the frame, and LF Reymond Fuentes went 4-for-4 with a triple. Keyvius Sampson lasted only 2.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks, with four K’s, but Brian Matusz then tossed 2.1 scoreless frames to help set up the finish. Jimmie Sherfy closed the door in a 1-2-3 ninth, with two K’s, for a most improbable save.
Double-A Jackson 2, Tennessee 8. A two-run homer by C Oscar Hernandez (#2) gave the Generals a second inning lead, but the Smokies responded with a four-run third off Brad Keller. He lasted six innings, but scattered 10 hits and four walks, allowed seven earned runs, while fanning seven. Jared Miller allowed an unearned run in 1.1 innings, while fanning four. 3B Dawel Lugo had two of Jackson’s five hits, including a double, but their hitters had a K:BB ratio of 13:0.
A-ball Kane County 4, Great Lakes 1. Jon Duplantier allowed only an unearned run over his six innings, on four hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts. He reduced his ERA to 0.86, with a K:BB ratio of 40:7 in 31.1 innings. The Cougars scored their four runs on only five hits, thanks to eight walks: SS Jasrado Chisholm reached base three times, on a walk and a pair of hits, while C Jose Herrera doubled and walked. Ryan Burr and Tommy Eveld combined for three hitless innings out of the bullpen, with four strikeouts.
