If yesterday’s game got away from the Rockies fast, this one may have broken the sound-barrier in getting away from Patrick Corbin and the Diamondbacks. Five batters into the bottom of the first, Arizona were four runs down, and they barely twitched off the flat-line thereafter. Corbin was tattooed for eight runs, all earned, in just four innings, on nine hits and a walk, with three strikeouts. Andrew Chafin looked solid, striking out five over his two scoreless frames of mop-up, and T.J. McFarland allowed a run in two innings.
The offense had its chances in the first three innings, getting multiple men on base, but all they had to show for it was a Gregor Blanco RBI single in the second. Nick Ahmed had two hits, and also the Diamondbacks’ only bases on balls here, while Jake Lamb had a particularly wretched night. He went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts, for the first Arizona golden sombrero since August last year. Rubber game of this one tomorrow, and it’s the D-backs who’ll need to bounce back for that.
Beercap to follow. Beer sold separately.
