Diamondbacks 11, Padres 2

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

A very nice game both offensively and defensively for the Diamondbacks tonight. The offense put a beat down on the Padres pitching tonight, putting up crooked numbers in both the fourth and fifth innings. The two big at bats this evening came from Chris Owings and Yasmany Tomas. Owings bunted with the bases loaded and two runs scored after pitcher Chris Stammen threw the ball away. Tomas’s big hit came in the form of an actual big hit, a three run home run in the fifth, to help put the game far out of reach. To finish it off, they added two more in both the eighth and ninth

As good as the offense was, Shelby Miller might have been even better. His final line was 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, and 5 K’s. Of course the caveat of he was facing the Padres is important here, but he didn’t just pitch well, he dominated. Even late in the game, he was able to reach back and get in the high 90’s with his fastball. It was a far cry from his game in San Diego around this time last year when he grazed the mound with his pitching hand and started his decent into terrible. Full, happy recap to follow!
