Arizona Diamondbacks: April Confidence poll

The eve of the war...

Spring training is now over, and tomorrow, the regular season begins. But before we get to that, here are the results of the confidence poll taken at the beginning of March, as the pre-season games were just getting under way.

  • 6% - 1 (not confident in the slightest)
  • 4% - 2
  • 15% - 3
  • 11% - 4
  • 19% - 5
  • 25% - 6
  • 17% - 7
  • 1% - 8
  • 3% - 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

Again, not a great deal of movement here. But there was a drop in the 4’s, with the 5-7 range all increasing by between four and nine percent over the February 1 figure. There were also drops at the extreme ends of the spectrum: 1-2 and also 8-9, both saw a decrease, which I guess kinda balanced each other out! Here’s the chart showing how the overall numbers have ranged during the last 12 polls.

The overall confidence tended up, finishing just a hair shy of the five mark, at 4.98. It has been in a holding pattern for much of the winter, remaining in a narrow band of less than one point, between 4.20 and 5.10, for the past five polls - pretty much since Mike Hazen was appointed as General Manager. I think this likely reflects both the fairly limited set of moves over the winter, and a sense that the proof will be in the actual games - beginning tomorrow afternoon. But it’s still well below the 6.83 recorded at the same point in 2016, as spring training was just getting under way then.

Now spring is in the books, how does SnakePit Nation feel? Does the strikeout machine which was Taijuan Walker balance out the velocity concerns about Zack Greinke? Below, find the April poll (unless you’re on Google AMP). As usual, comment in the comments - especially if you’ve changed your vote from last month.
