I almost thought today was a different looking line-up for the D-backs, as on the calligraphy scorecard, it had “Descalso 5” and “Nick Ahmed 6”. I always think 5 = shortstop and 6 = third-base, but it’s the other way around. I’m not sure why, since if you go around the infield, it’s first, second, shortstop, then third [unless you’ve got a shift on, of course]. Extensive research, i.e. two minutes of moderate Googling, couldn’t find a reason why shortstop and third are swapped in the numerical order like they are. It’s probably something to do with Henry Chadwick, who is usually credited with inventing the score-keeping system.
Recap on this one may be up a little late, since Mrs. S and I will potentially be heading out for dinner and a local pro wrestling show. If this is a briskly played encounter, over before 4pm, there may be time for the recap to go up first. Or if we decide to stay home instead: apathy is a terrible thing. Otherwise, it’ll be some point tonight. But you can always listen the game, since it’s on the radio this afternoon, Arizona Sports 98.7.
